May Recipe of the Month: Gentle Paws' Healing Balm
New Bark City Protocol: Topical Barrier & Tissue Repair
Description
A clinical-grade topical salve designed for "Red-Listed" rescues who arrive with chemical burns, pad abrasions, or environmental irritation. This balm provides a non-toxic breathable barrier that promotes cellular regeneration while being safe for dogs who tend to lick their paws.
Ingredients
2 oz Organic Beeswax Pellets (provides the structural barrier)
2 oz Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil (antibacterial and antifungal properties)
1 oz Shea Butter (deep moisturizing for cracked pads)
2-3 drops Vitamin E Oil (natural preservative and skin repair)
1 tsp Dried Calendula (optional—clinically known for soothing inflammation)
Preparation
Melt: Using a double-boiler method, melt the beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter together over low heat until completely clear.
Infuse: If using calendula, stir it in and let it steep for 5 minutes, then strain through a fine mesh.
Fortify: Remove from heat and stir in the Vitamin E oil.
Set: Pour the liquid into 2 oz tins or small glass jars. Let it sit undisturbed for 2 hours until firm.
How to Use
Application: Clean the affected area first. Apply a thin layer to pads or irritated skin 2–3 times daily.
The Ethology Connection: Use this time to practice "Low-Stress Touch." Watch for the "Silent Language" signals—if the dog stiffens, give them space and try again later.
How to Store
Store in a cool, dry place. Because this recipe contains no water, it is shelf-stable for up to 6 months.
