The Medical Step-Down Unit: Honoring the Forgotten
This suite is named after Buddy—a hurricane survivor who, after years of loyalty, was "thrown away" and left to survive on the streets alone. We specialize in the dogs the world has stopped looking for: the seniors with painful arthritis, the "discarded" pets found wandering with sores and skin infections, and those who arrive so physically depleted they can no longer walk. As a retired nurse, I provide the "Medical Step-Down" care needed to restore dignity to these fragile lives, whether they are recovering from active trauma or months of survival on the streets.
The External Healing & Restoration Protocol
Restoring a discarded dog requires a combination of clinical precision and a healer's touch:
Senior & Mobility Support: For residents like Buddy who struggle with arthritis and the physical toll of life on the street, we provide specialized pain management and mobility support to get them back on their feet.
Nutritional Restoration: Many of our residents arrive emaciated—"skin and bones"—not always from malice, but from being left to fend for themselves. We use high-calorie, nutrient-dense recipes from our New Bark City Cookbook to safely "beef them up" and rebuild their strength.
The "Buddy" Medication Hack: We believe that medicine should never be a struggle. For our "pill-smart" seniors, we use our proven Cheese-Only Protocol, ensuring their daily treatments are always a moment of joy and connection.
